Veterans Ombudsman Commendation - Nominations Open

Ottawa, ON - June 15, 2015

Across the country there are countless individuals and groups who dedicate their time and efforts to improving the lives of Veterans and their families. I have the pleasure of meeting some of them in my day-to-day work and as part of my national outreach, and have a sincere appreciation for their passion and dedication to Veterans and their families. I feel strongly that their contributions should be recognized, as their work is often thankless but is undoubtedly vital to advancing Veterans’ issues and improving their lives.

Each year, my office presents the Veterans Ombudsman’s Commendation to individuals and/or groups for their outstanding contribution to the well-being of Veterans and their families.

The time has come to seek nominations of individuals, groups, businesses or associations that meet one of the following criteria:

  • Exceptional leadership, advocacy and/or activism on behalf of Veterans and/or their families; or
  • Outstanding contribution in promoting the fair treatment of Veterans and their families, in accordance with the Veterans Bill of Rights; or
  • Exceptional contribution in bringing about substantive change to address systemic issues and/or the needs and concerns of Veterans and their families.

If you would like to make a nomination, I encourage you to complete the nomination form. For a nomination to be deemed complete, a brief summary describing how the nominee meets any of the above three criteria (of approximately 250-500 words in length) and two letters of support from individuals other than yourself (maximum one page in length) must be provided along with the nomination form. Learn more about the nomination process.

Once the call for nominations has closed, the Veterans Ombudsman’s Advisory Council will review all nominations and provide me with their recommendations. Nominations can be sent electronically to or by mail to:

Office of the Veterans Ombudsman

The deadline for receipt of nominations is Monday July 27, 2015. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Office at the email address above or by phone at 613-943-3089.

Thank you in advance for your nomination.
