Congratulations to the 2015 Recipients of the Veterans Ombudsman Commendation!
Ottawa, Ontario - November 3, 2015
I take great pride in recognizing exemplary efforts on behalf of the Veterans’ community. Each time we receive nominations for the Veterans Ombudsman Commendation, I am encouraged and inspired to read about the dedication of individuals and groups to Veterans and their families. I sincerely thank those who took the time to submit nominations.
This year, I am pleased to announce that Lieutenant-General the Honourable Roméo Dallaire (Ret’d) and Captain Ray Kokkonen (Ret’d) have been selected among several worthy nominees that offered their time to either assist Veterans or advocate on their behalf. Both recipients exemplify the commendation criteria and are truly inspiring in their commitment to supporting and improving the lives of Veterans and their families.
While these two recipients are undeniably deserving of this award, it is never easy to choose between the many outstanding individuals and groups who are nominated. For that challenging task, I thank the members of my Advisory Council for reviewing the nominations and providing me with their advice.
I have the honour today of presenting these dedicated individuals with their awards before their nominators and loved ones along with members of my team and Advisory Council. I look forward to recognizing their valiant efforts and sharing my utmost appreciation for their work.
Check back soon as we will share photos from the ceremony and videos of the impressions of the recipients.
Read more about these and previous recipients on our Ombudsman’s Commendation Recipient page.
Please join me in congratulating Lt.-Gen the Honourable Roméo Dallaire (Ret’d) and Capt. Ray Kokkonen (Ret’d)!
