Veterans Ombudsman to meet with Winnipeg Veterans’ Community

Canada’s Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent will be in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on March 20-21st to meet with Veterans and their families, Veterans’ organizations, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, RCMP, and municipal leaders.

“I am looking forward to visiting Winnipeg,” said the Ombudsman. “It is a vibrant community with many serving members and Veterans and their families. Their concerns are my concerns as Veterans Ombudsman, and I intend to reach out to and meet as many members as I can.”

Veterans Ombudsman releases Transitioning Successfully: A Qualitative Study

Canada’s Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent released today Transitioning Successfully: A Qualitative Study. The aim of the study was to better understand what contributes to a successful transition from military to civilian life for medically released Canadian Veterans, by interviewing Veterans who feel that they transitioned successfully, learning about their lived experience, and determining the factors, programs and services that help.

Veterans Ombudsman releases Continuum of Care: A Journey from Home to Long Term Care

Canada’s Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent released today Continuum of Care: A Journey from Home to Long Term Care. The Report considers the current challenges faced by Veterans as they age and/or require more care. It also makes seven recommendations for change and calls on the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Affairs Canada to implement the recommendations within two years of the date of publication.

Veterans Ombudsman to meet with Yellowknife Veterans’ Community

Canada’s Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent will be in Yellowknife, NWT, on September 6th and 7th to meet with Veterans and their families, Veterans’ organizations, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Rangers, RCMP, and municipal leaders.

“I am looking forward to visiting Yellowknife,” said the Ombudsman. “As the capital of the Northwest Territories, it is a dynamic community with many serving members and Veterans and their families. Their concerns are my concerns as Veterans Ombudsman, and I intend to meet as many members as I can.”

Veterans Ombudsman Releases Actuarial Follow-up Report

Veterans Ombudsman Guy Parent released today a follow-up to his 2013 Actuarial Analysis of the New Veterans Charter (NVC). He noted that since 2011, and prior to Budget 2017, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) introduced four new benefits and implemented eight enhancements to the NVC. While there has been a resulting increase to lifetime compensation for many Veterans, there remains gaps requiring further improvement. As well, the layering of additional benefits has resulted in increased complexity for Veterans.
