Major (Ret’d) Alexander Tsang (1947-2025) began his service as a Medic in the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom before immigrating to Canada where he continued his military career in the Reserves with the Canadian Armed Forces. Since 1983, Tsang had been a member of the Edmonton United Services Institute (EUSI), serving as President for a time.

He volunteered with Kiwanis, the Youth Empowerment and Support Services Shelter Society, and Edmonton Salutes, a committee that advocates for CAF members’ and Veterans’ well-being and he worked with the Edmonton City Council. Tsang’s focus was on speaking at schools through EUSI and The Memory Project to support commemoration efforts and raise awareness of Canada’s military service, its history, and the challenges faced by Veterans today. He was also the Alberta branch’s Last Post Fund Director, where he worked to ensure Veterans’ families received appropriate support for funerals and burials.

Sadly, Alexander passed away in February 2025.

Transcript

I knew Major Alex Tsang over 40 years now and nominated him for this award because of his decades of service and his duties and work within the Veteran community.

He got involved in so many groups. He was involved with the Edmonton United Services Institute. He was involved with Edmonton Salutes. He was involved with the Royal Commonwealth Society, the Royal Canadian Legion, many regimental associations. And he was always around to support Veterans in issues that were going on and also with current affairs.

He was always including, inviting people, and it was always about other people. It wasn't about him. He was very genuine. He was very authentic, and he just came across so original to people. One of the best friends you could ever have. So I thank the family. I thank Alex, I thank him for the memories. I try to say his name often because that's how you keep somebody's memory alive.
