Transitioning Successfully: A Qualitative Study highlighted the finding that spouses were noted as the greatest source of support for transitioning members. This project will delve deeper into this finding and explore the lived experience of spouses of Veterans, who have medically-released between 2006 and 2016 and who have successfully transitioned

Research Study – Determinants of Successful Transition

Thank you for your interest in this qualitative research study being conducted by the Office of the Veterans Ombudsman (OVO).

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to determine the factors or programs during the release process that facilitate a successful transition and integration into civilian life for medically-released Canadian Armed Forces members.

Research Objectives

Definition of 'primary caregiver' and 'principal residence' for the Agent Orange ex gratia payment

The Agent Orange Ex gratia payment was established by Order in Council (SI/2007-87 and SI/2010-96). The Order in Council defines 'primary caregiver' and 'principal residence' as follows:

"primary caregiver" in relation to an individual, means the adult person who, immediately before the individual died,

Serve with Honour, Depart with Dignity

On February 19, 2009, the Office of the Veterans Ombudsman released its first report, entitled Serve with Honour, Depart with Dignity. The report served as an administrative review of Veterans Affairs Canada’s Funeral and Burial Program, which is a program that is administered by the Last Post Fund. During the year 2007, the Fund processed approximately 16,000 applications for benefits under the Funeral and Burial Program.

Veterans Ombud finds sex-based bias in VAC adjudication processes

In 2018, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) implemented a new process to streamline male-specific erectile dysfunction claims that are related to a psychiatric condition. As part of our work to identify barriers experienced by women Veterans, we launched an investigation to determine whether Veterans have equitable access to fair and timely decisions for sexual dysfunction disability benefits regardless of their sex or gender.
